Gonzaga Women at Loyola Marymount Open Thread

January 19, 2025 by The Slipper Still Fits

Tip-off is set for 2 PM PST!

Time to get ready for the quick turn around after an emotional win against Portland on Thursday as the Bulldogs have travelled to LA to take on LMU in a matchup that will be streamed on ESPN+ and set to start at 2 PM PST.

As I mentioned in the closing paragraph of the Portland game review, Loyola Marymount have hit the skids since the start of WCC play as they’ve yet to win any of their 6 games.

The Lions have fairly strong offensive output from their starting four, but after that, the scoring dries up pretty quickly. Here are the top scorers on this team:

  • Sr. / Guard / 5’6” — Naudia Evans: 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.6 assists
  • So. / Forward / 6’1” — Maya Hernandez: 13.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists
  • Sr. / Guard / 5’6” — Brandi Williams: 12.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists
  • Jr. / Guard / 6’3” — Carly Heidger: 9.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists

As a squad, the team stats for the Lions don’t really stand out in any particular way outside of the team’s drop-off since the start of WCC play. Not all of this can be attributed to the still active Los Angeles fires since those began in early January, but looking at this team’s stats from non-conference versus conference is pretty striking.

  • Non-Con: 73.8 points, 43.2% FG, 34.1% 3FG, 33.8 rebounds, 15.1 assists, 10.1 turnovers
  • WCC: 57.2 points, 37.6% FG, 30.8% 3FG, 25.5 rebounds, 11 assists, 15 turnovers

The Lions are coming off a defeat on the road against Pacific on Thursday 51-62 in a match where they shot 29% from the field, 11.1% from beyond the arc, and just 7 assists. Let’s hope the Bulldogs can keep up their strong play and make LMU wait for their basketball performance misery to end until their next match.
