Gonzaga Women Looking to Ride Out Santa Clara

March 2, 2025 by The Slipper Still Fits

you better tune in to watch Yvonne Ejim’s attempt break another GU record

The Zags stay on the road for the final match of the ‘24-25 regular season campaign. It paradoxically feels both like yesterday that the season was getting started, but also forever ago. So much has happened and changed with this team and the world. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

For this final game, the Bulldogs will be facing the Santa Clara Bulldogs that is set to tip at 2pm PST and will be featured on ESPN+. This game has some big attachments to it as another win will secure Gonzaga’s third WCC regular season title and we may get to see Yvonne Ejim break Drew Timme’s record for the all-time lead in career points, which currently stands at 2,307, as she needs just 15 points to make this her own. On the season, Eijm has scored less than 15 points just five times.

Santa Clara could elevate their seeding up to 7th by wining this matchup depending on if Pacific defeats Portland, which would clearly benefit the Bulldogs.

These two teams last played January 4th and the Bulldogs routed the Broncos 82-59. This was when the team was really hitting their stride and this win seemed to really propel them towards the eventual 14-game winning streak as it came off the back of a tough win against Portland just two days prior.

It’ll be interesting to see which version of this Zags team we get. Will we get the team that we saw in the first half of the Pacific game, all gears clicking, offense flying, and defense aggressive. Or, will we get the team that came out of the halftime break that couldn’t control the ball, hit their shots, and generally looks out of sync. That is the mystery of this Bulldogs squad at this stage in the year.
