Suggs’ big week is the headliner
It was a bit of a light week around the world for our former Zags, but there were still some games of note. Jalen Suggs had himself quite the week, including returning to Minnesota vs. the Timberwolves. Josh Perkins and Austin Daye also faced off in Serie A action in Italy.
Jalen Suggs: Suggs leads off our recap this week, thanks to the best week of his young career. He set an early career high of 21 points, along with four assists in a faceoff with fellow top-five pick Scottie Barnes and the Raptors last week. He followed that with a 10 point, six assist, five rebound game against the Pistons and a 15 point effort in a homecoming matchup against the Wolves.
Domantas Sabonis: Domas has posted double-doubles in back to back games, including 24 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists in a win over the Spurs. He has five 20 point games and four double doubles through eight games so far.
Kelly Olynyk: Olynyk had 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks against Jalen and the Magic on Saturday, leading the Pistons to their only win on the season so far. He is averaging 13.7 points in six contests for his new team.
Corey Kispert: Kispert had the best game of the season so far against the Hawks, scoring five points and nabbing two rebounds and a steal. He also hit his first career three in that game. Kispert has played in all but one game for the Wizards, who are 5-2 to start the season.
Brandon Clarke: BC has seen his playing time continue to dwindle, sitting out two of the last three games for Memphis. He has scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds over 20 minutes in his last two games played.
Killian Tillie: Tillie has played in a pair of games for the Grizzlies. He has yet to score, but has contributed with four rebounds, two steals, and a block. He likely will spend a good chunk of his season in the G-League, which kicks into full swing this week.
Rui Hachimura: Rui has yet to play this season for Washington and is not currently with the team. Personal reasons have been cited for his absence, and there isn’t a timetable for his return.
Joel Ayayi: Ayayi has not suited up for the Wizards since his lone appearance last week. Like Tillie, Joel will more than likely head to the G-League, so expect the Ayayi Express to get a lot more run time for the Capital City Go-Go once they get underway.
Kevin Pangos: Pangos has also been inactive for the Cavaliers, having last played on the 27th. The reason for his absence is much more positive; he was put on paternity leave as he and his wife welcomed the birth of their second child. Congrats Kevin!
Filip Petrusev: Petrusev had a solid weekend, going for a combined 31 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks while shooting 14-20 from the field in his last two games. His 17 point effort vs. Tofas in the Turkish Super League tied a season high, and his 24 minutes played were his most in a game this season.
Kyle Wiltjer: Wiltjer led Tenerife to victory in their only game of the week, scoring 20 points on 7-11 shooting with five rebounds. He is averaging 12.4 points per game with 57.6% shooting from beyond the arc in 11 games.
Geno Crandall: Much like Wiltjer, Geno also helped lead his team to a win in their only game of the week, finishing with ten points, eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals in Leicester’s seventh straight victory. He is leading the British Basketball League with 3.1 steals on the year.
Josh Perkins/Austin Daye: Perkins and Brindisi took on Daye and Venezia in a Serie A showdown over the weekend, with Perkins’ squad edging out an 81-80 win to improve to 5-1 in the league. Perkins finished with 13 points and three assists, while Daye had nine points and two rebounds.
Admon Gilder: Gilder has been suiting up for Finnish squad Lahti this season. He was off to a strong start, averaging 18.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in his first three games. He has been inactive since, presumably due to injury (my information on Finnish basketball is limited, so any further details are a mystery, unfortunately).
Injury report: Nigel Williams-Goss will likely return in a few weeks after injuring his finger for Real Madrid. Zach Collins is still recovering from an ankle injury and is expected to join the Spurs around the New Year.
