Breaking: Xavier Worthy’s 4.21 40-Yard Dash Officially Breaks NFL Record

John Ross is a record-holder no more. There is a new record for the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL history and it belongs to Xavier Worthy.

Worthy set an unofficial mark of 4.25 in his first attempt at the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine today. Rather than rest on his laurels, Worthy decided to chase the record previously set by Ross in the 2017 NFL Combine.

At first glance, Worthy was only able to tie the record, setting an unofficial time of 4.22 seconds. It was impressive enough and a mark that will all but guarantee that he hears his name on the first night of Draft Day next month.

But after Combine officials measured the time more officially, they found that the clocked time on his second run was 0.01 seconds slow. The official time was set at 4.21 seconds – a new record.

We already knew that Xavier Worthy was an incredible NFL prospect. He had over 1,000 receiving yards with the Texas Longhorns this past year and has a top 50 grade from most analysts, along with a first-round grade from some.

Speed like that is impossible to ignore though. Back in 2017 it helped boost John Ross all the way to the top 10 as the Cincinnati Bengals took him No. 9 overall.

In a draft where many NFL teams are going to be looking for a new wide receiver, it seems inevitable that Worthy goes in the first round now. He could even wind up going in the top 10 like Ross was.

Congratulations, Xavier Worthy.
