Favorite For Heisman Trophy Emerges Heading Into Week 5

September 26, 2023 by The Spun

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – DECEMBER 10: (L-R) Quarterback Stetson Bennett of the Georgia Bulldogs, Quarterback Max Duggan of the TCU Horned Frogs, Quarterback C.J. Stroud of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Quarterback Caleb Williams of the USC Trojans pose with the Heisman Trophy after a press conference prior to the 2022 Heisman Trophy Presentation at New York Marriott Marquis Hotel on December 10, 2022 in New York City. A Pac-12 quarterback has emerged as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this year. But it’s not Caleb Williams…

According to Caesars Sportsbook via Vegas Insider, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. now has the top odds of taking home the most prestigious award in college football. At +275 to win the Heisman, Penix is now better than USC’s Caleb Williams, who is +375 to take home the prize.

Penix has been putting up some mindblowing numbers through these first four games. He has 1,636 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, just two interceptions and a 74.6-percent completion rate.

However, the numbers are not the same across all sports books. FanDuel Sportsbook, Draftkings Sportsbook, Points Bet and BetMGM all have Penix and Williams in a dead heat at varying odds.

Michael Penix Jr. has been UNREAL 🔥

Week 1: 450 YDS, 5 TD
Week 2: 409 YDS, 3 TD
Week 3: 473 YDS, 4 TD
Week 4: 304 YDS, 4 TD

Michael Penix Jr. is in his sixth year of college football. He played his first four years at Indiana, leading them on an historic top 15 finish during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, before joining the Huskies in 2022.

In his first year in Washington, Penix threw for over 4,600 yards and 31 touchdowns.

With the way he’s playing now, Penix can pass both of those marks well before the end of the regular season.

Is Michael Penix Jr. going to win the Heisman?
