If you intercept five passes, chances are you’re going to win that game. Washington made that obvious theory a reality en route to securing a 9-4 campaign.
Boise State starting quarterback Maddux Madsen threw two interceptions in the opening half; the other three were by backup Max Cutforth. On the other sideline, Washington signal caller Demond Williams celebrated another stellar ball performance. He threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns on 15-of-25 attempts in the rout. Williams, barring a potential Jedd Fisch departure, will be a Husky again next season.
The same can’t be said for running back Jonah Coleman, who ended his collegiate career with 86 rushing yards and a touchdown. While Denzel Boston’s future is ‘to be determined,’ it’s safe to assume Saturday at SoFi Stadium was his Husky finale. The talented receiver will likely enter the NFL Draft, as he should. His longest play of the evening was a 78-yard touchdown in which Boise State’s defense forgot to defend the best player on the field. He’s so good that defenders are afraid to line up against him, apparently. In total, Boston had 125 yards on six catches along with the score.
After a slow first quarter, it felt like the Huskies would be in for yet another Big Ten-style game, despite facing the Mountain West champions. It was just 3-3 after the opening quarter, and UW couldn’t capitalize after an Xe’ree Alexander interception gave them great field position.
In a flash, the Dawgs found their groove. The 78-yard score by Boston was Washington’s first of the evening. After forcing a turnover on downs, Washington added seven more points when Williams connected with star freshman Dezmen Roebuck for a pretty six-yard score. Boise State’s ensuing drive was cut short by a Rahshawn Clark interception. Three plays later, Williams found Raiden Vines-Bright for a three-yard touchdown, the freshman’s first of his career.
Washington led 24-3 at halftime, and based on momentum, there was little doubt Boise State could rally.
That doubt grew larger when the Huskies took a 31-3 lead on the first drive after the break. This time, it was Quentin Moore on the receiving end of a touchdown pass. He was penalized for spiking the ball, despite Rob Gronkowski hosting. Safe to assume he disapproved of the flag?
The fourth was a reflection of the second and third quarters, with the only difference being Boise State, which scored on its final drive.
As soon as the victory became official, attention shifted to next season. Who will UW add in the portal? How high is the ceiling next season? Can this program compete with the Big Ten elite?
Of course, none of those are bigger than the primary question. Will Jedd Fisch be the head coach in 2026? He says he expects to coach the Dawgs next season. Time will tell if Michigan can sway him.
