Look: Attendance At Washington’s “Spring Game” Is Awful

May 1, 2022 by The Spun Leave a Comment

General view of Husky Stadium.

The Washington Huskies’ football team apparently isn’t generating much interest these days.

On Saturday, the University of Washington football team held its “spring preview.” There were around 100 fans in attendance, and that number might be generous.

There clearly isn’t much excitement about the Kalen DeBoer era this year.

It’s worth mentioning Washington didn’t advertise this as a traditional spring game. It’s listed as a “spring preview.” But the Huskies certainly acted like it was gameday.

Washington brought out the purple smoke, had players run out of the tunnel and held a pretty in-depth scrimmage.

The Huskies clearly weren’t expecting such a poor turnout.

“The Washington football spring practice season – the first under new head coach Kalen DeBoer – comes to a close with the annual Spring Preview, on Saturday, April 30, at 11:30 a.m.,” the school announced prior to the event. “The event is open to all fans, free of charge, and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Along with the open practice, the day will include kids activities, photobooths, games, and food trucks.”

To make matters worse for Washington, Oregon – UW’s top rival – had over 40,000 fans in attendance for its spring game last Saturday. The Ducks even had dozens of campus legends on hand.

Washington’s down bad, but luckily it’s just the offseason. Hopefully the Huskies have a better turnout during the regular season.
