Happy Monday Dawgs fans, and welcome to today’s Dots.
It looked like deja vu from the previous week at Maryland when the Dawgs trailed Rutgers 10-0 after the 1st quarter, but just like against the Terrapins, the Dawgs eventually found their footing, and rode the arm and legs of Demond Williams, Jr. to a 38-19 win at Husky Stadium.
Williams set career highs for passing yards (402) and rushing yards (136), and set a new school record for total offense (538 yards), surpassing both Michael Penix (529) and Marques Tuiasosopo (509).
If not for Williams’s fumble near the Rutgers goal line, UW may well have added a scoring drive that would’ve seen the Dawgs score points on every drive after the 2nd quarter began.
Dezmen Roebuck’s star is rising fast, his 108 receiving yards paired with Denzel Boston’s 98 yards and 2 TDs.
Rutgers QB Athan Kaliakmanis also set career highs for completions, attempts, and yards with 31/50 for 386 – not a feel-good stat if you’re a Husky, but the type that gets overshadowed by a win and standout performance from Demond Williams.
All the same, Kaliakmanis’s big numbers, along with a defense that bottled up Jonah Coleman for the second week, do leave areas for improvement.
Through 6 games, the Huskies are outscoring opponents 142-51 in the 2nd half, and have only allowed 10 points in the 4th quarter — all to Ohio State. The Dawgs certainly have established a pattern of pulling away in the 2nd half of games, evidenced against Colorado State, WSU, Maryland, and now Rutgers.
- Christian Caple, “The Day After, a day later: 32 thoughts on Washington’s 38-19 win over Rutgers” Caple points out that ”…”it seemed Fisch called more designed runs for [Demond Williams] than in past games. It also seemed as if Rutgers keyed on Jonah Coleman, which worked well enough, but it left the Scarlet Knights vulnerable to Williams…”
I’ve been hoping for more designed runs for Demond. We’ll see if Fisch continues this tactic.

If like me you were wondering why Jacob Manu’s number wasn’t being called on Friday night:
