But your Dots will soon be wanderin’ the way they always do
When you’re ridin’ sixteen hours and there’s nothin’ there to do
- Every winter, Christian Caple does a reader survey for subscribers at On Mountlake. Given the sub-section of obsessive Husky Fans paying to subscribe to the site, it’s a good barometer for how the most passionate Husky fans feel about the program. This year’s results are in, and they show a pretty significant uptick in optimism about Jedd Fisch and the UW football program. A 9-4 season and an outstanding recruiting class are definitely steps in the right direction. I can’t quite shake the feeling that Fisch will not be at UW much more than another year, but if he stays, I agree that the Dawgs are on the right track.
- Husky Women’s Basketball had been on a five game winning streak in the Big 10, but lost a home game against Illinois on Sunday. The Illini built up a lead when the Dawgs went cold from the field in the second quarter and never looked back. While the Huskies were favored to win this home game given their great form, Illinois is no slouch at 16-6 and above .500 in conference. The schedule does not get any easier for UW with #11 Ohio State coming to Seattle next.
- Back on the football front, the Seattle Times has an interesting profile of the winding recruitment of defensive lineman David Schwerzel. The edge rusher has been on Dawg fans’ radar since he broke out with O’Dea as a sophomore. When he committed to Stanford and later flipped to UCLA, it did not look like he was destined to wind up at Husky Stadium. However, a late push from the Huskies got him to flip his commitment on signing day and he will stay home to play for UW.
- Speaking of defenders committing to UW, Titus Osterman is the latest member of the ‘27 recruiting class. The Dawgs identified the rangy linebacker as a target at their camp and became his first Power 4 offer. Dawgman spoke to Osterman to learn more about his background and why he chose UW.
- It was a big weekend in track and field for the Dawgs, as well. there were highlights all over the men’s and women’s teams at the Dempsey Indoor Mile City event. Hannah Moll became the second woman to ever clear 16’ in the poll vault, joining her sister Amanda. Seven men broke the 4 minute threshold in the mile in the same heat. And Chloe Foerster re-broke UW’s school record in the mile.
