Happy Sunday Husky fans. It feels way better to be writing this post this morning after the Huskies pulled off the comeback yesterday. Today I wanted to spotlight some of the Husky commits and provide an update on how they are doing mid-season:
4 star wide receiver commit Mason James from Norman North HS, OK continues to be a force for his team and is showing his playmaking skills. Not counting Friday’s game, which I don’t have stats for, James has 21 receptions for over 40 yards and 3 scores. The Huskies will be looking for playmakers on offense next season at the wide receiver position and James should have an opportunity to compete for playing time early.
4 star athlete Dre Pollard from Clark HS, NV had a big night last week for his team and he racked up over 300 yards of offense himself, and he returned a kickoff for a touchdown as well. Pollard, is a versatile player who can play on either side of the ball, but I suspect he will start out on offense. The most intriguing part of his game, other than his speed is his ability to catch the ball as a receiver (he has accounted for over 300 yards receiving and a couple of scores).
On the defensive line I wanted to spotlight 4 star defensive lineman T.I. Umu-Cais from Cherry Creek HS, CO. The Huskies pushed very hard to land Umu-Cais in their class, and so far he has been a wrecking ball for his team. Through last week he had 13.5 TFL’s and a couple of sacks. It might be asking a lot to see a big impact from Umu-Cais but he has the ability to be a game wrecker for the Dawgs during his career. It’s no mystery that the Huskies need better play on the defensive line and adding players like T.I. bodes well for the future of Huskies football.
The Huskies are bringing in an excellent class and it’s awesome to see some of their commits shine. It’s easy to envision a handful coming in next season and contributing early and often. Most of the current commits have stated that they will be enrolling early which should help as well. That is all for today and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
