Rhode Island transfer guard Luis Kortright commits to Washington

May 11, 2024 by Zags Blog

By SAM LANCE

For his final season of college basketball, Rhode Island transfer guard Luis Kortright is heading to Washington, he told ZAGSBLOG.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard from Manhattan (NY), committed while on his Friday visit. Kortright averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for Rhode Island last season. Over his four-year career, he’s shot 38.8% from the field and 30.6% from 3-point range.

“The system (at Washington) was a lot of ball screens, playing fast,” Kortright told ZAGSBLOG. “I played them when the head coach (Danny Sprinkle) was at Montana State. I just saw myself playing in that system, those are the things I see myself doing as far as having the freedom to score and create and be me. (Coach Sprinkle) had multiple guards that were first team all league. Like back to back to back. That was convincing.”

This past season for Kortright was highlighted by a 26-point performance in a win over Davidson and a game-winning shot vs. Saint Joseph’s.

Kortright is an east coast guy, but now he’ll be playing basketball out west.

“It’s a different type of game being played out there,” Kortright said. “I felt I have a different type of flair to my game. I always thought to myself, maybe I should transition to the West Coast.”
