Washington Gets Revenge For National Title Defeat With Win Over No. 10 Michigan

October 7, 2024 by The Spun

Ranking The Alternate Uniforms For Every Big Ten Football Team (1:38)

Nine months ago the Washington Huskies saw their national title hopes dashed by Jim Harbaugh, J.J. McCarthy, Blake Corum and the rest of the Michigan Wolverines. But with new head coaches and new starting quarterbacks on both teams, the Huskies got a pound of flesh back.

Despite being unranked, Washington were favorites against No. 10 Michigan today. It didn’t take long for the Huskies to justify Vegas’ confidence in them as they took a 14-0 lead before the Wolverines could even get on the board. Michigan kept the game close, taking the lead early in the third quarter off a touchdown pass from quarterback Jack Tuttle to Colston Loveland. But those would be the final points the Wolverines would score.

In the fourth quarter, Washington tied the game with a field goal and then all hell broke loose as both teams started turning the ball over on multiple drives. But Washington would capitalize on a Michigan fumble while Michigan could not return the favor on a Huskies interception.

The end result was a 27-17 win for Washington and a big win for head coach Jedd Fisch and quarterback Will Rogers – who replaced Kalen DeBoer and Michael Penix Jr. respectively after last year’s national title runner-up season.

As for Michigan, their hopes of reaching the national title game may have gone up in flames. They’re now 4-2 on the season and are going to have a week off to lick their wounds and sink deeper down the AP top 25 ranking before they get to play Illinois.

Their schedule isn’t going to get much easier as they still have games to play against Illinois, Oregon and Indiana before they take on arch-rival Michigan in The Game.
