Washington scored 10 touchdowns on 10 drives. So if you weren’t satisfied with last weekend’s victory over Colorado State, there you go.
The Huskies are now 2-0. Up next? An early bye week, and then the Dawgs will look to reclaim the Apple Cup when making a trip up to Pullman.
It was another excellent outing for the Huskies’ star offensive trio. Running back Jonah Coleman rushed for five touchdowns and 111 yards on just 15 carries. Demond Williams logged 254 passing yards and a touchdown on 16-of-25 attempts. He also ran for 64 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Boston finished with 50 yards and five catches; his big play of the evening was a 78-yard punt return.
The Huskies opened the night with a sack as Jacob Lane got to UC Davis quarterback Cade Pinnick. The first play from scrimmage showed the noticeable talent gap, and that would continue throughout the evening.
Washington’s opening drive began with a 27-yard pickup as Demond Williams connected with Rashid Williams for a 27-yard gain. Coleman totaled 18 and 15 yards on his next two carries, with the latter being a touchdown. After forcing a three-and-out, Washington’s offense retook the field and added more points by going 70 yards in six plays. The highlight of the drive was a 45-yard connection from Williams to wide receiver Raiden Vines-Bright. Williams rushed for an 11-yard gain after that, then Coleman finished the job from one yard out, giving the Huskies a 14-0 lead.
After UC Davis responded with a field goal, the Dawgs were back on the attack, jumping to a 21-3 lead after Williams made men miss on an eight-yard rushing touchdown. Pinnick threw an interception on the opening play of the ensuing drive, so the Huskies poured on more points by going on a 62-yard, 11-play drive capped off by another Coleman touchdown—his third of the evening.
UC Davis put together a touchdown drive midway through the second quarter. In response, Coleman would go on to score for the fourth time, capping off a six-play, 65-yard drive.
The Huskies’ final points of the half were delivered by Boston’s punt return touchdown, giving UW a 42-10 advantage.
At halftime, Washington had outgained UC Davis 310-103 in total yards.
In the second half, Washington picked up where it left off. The Huskies opened the half with aggressiveness, and Coleman capped off the drive with a score from five yards out, giving him his fifth score of the evening.
The Huskies continued to light up the scoreboard throughout the second half. Williams collected an easy 47-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Dezmond Roebuck, on a play that was practically a jetsweep. Later, backup QB Kai Horton rushed for a 10-yard score. Adam Muhammed got in on the action as well, scoring from four yards out.
Washington’s next opponent, Wazzu, beat San Diego State 36-13 earlier in the evening to advance to 2-0. The Cougars battle North Texas this week, while Washington preps for revenge.
