Dots is back, all in, we’re gonna win
Check it out, yeah y’all, here we go again
- The Huskies’ captains have taken vastly different routes to this point in their careers. Demond Williams committed to Arizona before following Jedd Fisch to Seattle two years ago. Makell Esteen committed to Chris Petersen, joined the Huskies under Jimmy Lake for the Covid-shortened 2020 season, played in the CFP under Kalen DeBoer, and now assumes a full-time starting role under Fisch. Zach Durfee converted from QB to DE in the NAIA before transferring to UW under DeBoer, then stuck with the Dawgs rather than preserving the South Dakota connection with DeBoer. Andy Yamashita writes about how these disparate paths have brought all six UW captains to the same place heading into Saturday’s season opener against Colorado State.
- Christian Caple predicts the results of every Husky game this season. You can check to see how well he did when I post the spoiler game results on Friday. Caple also gives several of his best prop bets for the season and other predictions for the ‘25 Dawgs.
- Last year’s offense left a lot to be desired. They generated yards but often didn’t convert those drives into points. Things started to look up with Demond Williams Jr. took over at QB and introduced more explosive plays. That inconsistency begs many questions about the ‘25 offense. The ceiling is higher than it was a year ago due to Williams and an improved offensive line. One other major change is the exit of OC Brennan Carrol and the elevation of Jimmie Dougherty to replace him. Dougherty spoke to the media yesterday about his expectations for the offense and prognostications on several of the key contributors.
- Just because football games are starting, that doesn’t mean that recruiting slows down. Tom Loy of 247Sports takes a look at the UW recruiting class from a national perspective. He lists Kodi Greene as the class’s headliner, Blaise LaVista as an underrated prospect, and a front-line WR as the top remaining goal for the coaching staff.
- UW distance running has ascended to the national elite in recent years. The women’s team finished 13th at Nationals last year and the men took 16th. Those strong results earned preseason rankings for both teams going into this season. The women are ranked #8 in the preseason and the men enter the polls at #21.
