Wednesday Dots: Behind the Scenes at Husky Stadium

September 3, 2025 by UW Dawg Pound

Dots met his match you know
On the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dying words
Ah but that’s the way it goes

  • The Week 1 win over Colorado State gave optimistic Husky fans enough positive threads to feel good about the season. But even the most pollyannaish fan can’t waive away concerns about the run defense, which was gashed too often by a G5 opponent at home. New DC Ryan Walters acknowledged that the effort was not up to part, but said he feels good about the Dawgs’ ability to adapt and sees a path to better performance through the season.

  • One of the very clear reasons for optimism was the play of Demond Williams Jr. at QB. Mike Vorel writes that Jedd Fisch took flak from fans and the media last year for stubbornly giving Williams reps throughout the year, even when it might have better served the offensive continuity to leave Will Rogers in the game. Now, with parts of a season of reps under his belt, Williams is playing with more poise and making better adjustments than most first-year starters.

  • Christian Caple has a unique post for On Mountlake. He recorded most of his gameday experience as a credentialed media member at Husky Stadium and edited together the clips to give readers and fans an idea of what it’s like to experience a game day as a member of the media.

  • Ryan Walters wasn’t the only coordinator who spoke to the media on Tuesday and he wasn’t the only one who felt optimistic coming out of the CSU game. OC Jimmie Dougherty also held a press conference and said he feels good about the result on Saturday but gave some examples of places where there is room for improvement. The offense definitely looked better in the second-half, when there was clear effort for Williams to get rid of the ball or get on the move faster than he did in the first half. I suspect we will see that effort out of the game next week against UC-Davis.

  • It’s easy to forget about other Husky sports at this time of year, but still worth seeking them out when something interesting happens. The men’s and women’s cross-country teams held their first dual of the year against Seattle U. at Magnuson Park. Four UW men and seven UW women ran together and crossed the finish line at the same time as joint winners, making it a clear victory for the Dawgs.

If this ranking holds, September 27th would be the 5⃣th time EVER that the #1 ranked team in the AP Poll has visited Husky Stadium.

1967 vs USC
1969 vs Ohio State
2005 vs USC
2007 vs USC

Huskies are 0-4 when hosting #1. It would be Julian Sayin’s first career road start. https://t.co/2KHmUwP0Y6
