Wednesday Dots: Equity is not Equality

November 19, 2025 by UW Dawg Pound

Yeah, you got satin shoes
Yeah, you got plastic boots
Y’all got Dots eyes
Yeah, you got speed freak jive, now

  • UW Men’s Basketball played one of the weirder non-conference games you will ever see on Tuesday night. They ultimately eked out a win over Southern in double OT, but they looked absolutely dead in the water down four points with less than 15 seconds to go in the first OT. The game showed just how important freshman Hannes Steinbach, missing with a sprained ankle, already is for the Dawgs. The Seattle Times has the recap of the near catastrophe.

  • With internal divisions getting in the way of final approval, the Big 10’s proposed private equity deal has been shelved for the time being. On the bright side, Washington’s proposed distribution put the program in a fairly strong position relative to others in the conference- 6th highest payment and essentially on par with Oregon. On the other hand, I have been consistently befuddled by the idea that the conference would want to sell off its future assets to be strip-mined by a private equity firm. The failure to get the deal done is a blessing in disguise.

  • Speaking of being thankful for unanswered prayers, two former Huskies have found themselves in legal trouble in Chapel Hill. Both Thad Dixon and Khmori House have become notorious at UNC for speeding tickets and other driving infractions. Recall that both former Dawgs followed DC Steve Belichick into the burning building that is UNC football.

  • Christian Caple has his normal midweek recap of Jedd Fisch’s media availability. Fisch said that Raiden Vines-Bright is recovering well from the scary hit he took to the head against Purdue and might even return this weekend against UCLA. He gave updates on other injury recovery timelines and it sounds likely that we’ll see the same offensive line configuration as we did a week ago.

  • Blair Angulo has several recruiting updates on prospects coming out of Southern California and he highlights how well UW is doing in the region. He specifically notes that the Dawgs’ win over Purdue had several high-impact official visitors on campus and the Huskies seem to be surging with several difference-makers for the future.

  • Both Men’s and Women’s Tennis are at the NCAA tournament this week. While the men failed to advance out of the first round, two players from the women’s team advanced and will play in the second round.

Washington survives against Southern in double overtime.

USC transfer Desmond Claude goes for 20 and 6 in his season debut.

Still think UW will be formidable if and when everyone can get healthy.

Got to tour the new basketball practice facilities today! Incredible space for our student athletes to continue to work on their game. #Woof pic.twitter.com/fTHQXCHEd4

Washington put 22 offensive players on the field during Saturday’s 49-13 win over Purdue. Nine of them were true freshmen. Another six were either redshirt freshmen or true sophomores.

That and approximately 20 other thoughts here:
