There’s mosquitoes on the river
Fish are rising up like birds
It’s been Dots for seven weeks now
Too hot to even speak now
Did you hear what I just heard?
- Kalen DeBoer is not a popular topic around these parts, but it’s the bye week and we’re all adults, so let’s reflect. The Seattle Times used the column inches to publish a profile of DeBoer and how he has turned the Tide in his second year at Alabama. DeBoer entered the season with a seat that was at least a bit warm. It got hotter after the opening loss to Florida State, which looks more confusing as the Noles descend back to mediocrity. Since then, Alabama have won seven in a row, including four wins over top 15 teams, two of which cam eon the road. The wins over Georgia, Missouri, and South Carolina all reinforced DeBoer’s proclivity to make things tense up until the closing seconds of games. They also reflected his ability to find a way to win much more often than not.
- On the subject of bye week content, Mike Vorel tries to sell Seattle sports fans on the Huskies as they go through Mariners withdrawals. That’s not a sentence we often read or write in October.
- Scott Eklund takes a look around the Big 10 for Dawgman. None of the individual results were very surprising, but some of the margins of victory will turn heads. Iowa trouncing rival Minnesota 41-3 is noteworthy. It’s also interesting that Oregon’s offense sputtered against a so-so Wisconsin defense, only winning 21-7 despite being favored by more than 30.
- Washington volleyball has been in a rough patch during their toughest stretch of this year’s schedule. They have faced five ranked opponents in six matches. While they beat #17 Penn St, they have proceeded to lose the next three. They will host Oregon and UCLA at home over the weekend. The Dawgs can get back to .500 in Big 10 play with a sweep.
- The Huskies Men’s Soccer team received more honors after a big weekend win over Ohio St. Egor Akulov won the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Week while Jadon Bowton won Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time. The Huskies have won their last five matches and allowed only a single goal in that span.
