Wednesday Dots: K-fin Demond Hunter

January 8, 2026 by UW Dawg Pound

‘Cause I see your real face, and it’s ugly as sin
Time to put you in your place ’cause you’re Dots within

  • Believe it or not, many of the early posts today are all about Demond Williams and his stunning decision to reverse course and enter the transfer portal days after signing a new revenue share deal with UW. Christian Caple gives his initial thoughts on the situation, including some useful detail on the contract language and some of UW’s legal options. Most importantly, Caple points out that standard language from the Big 10 template requires someone who exits prematurely to pay “the remainder of the Consideration unpaid.” If Williams truly agreed to a deal for $4-$5m, as has been reported, that’s not a small check for LSU to cut.

  • Over at the Seattle Times, Matt Calkins is not usually the most sympathetic voice to Husky fans. Today, however, he comes down squarely on the side of the UW supporters. Calkins writes that, while a lot of fan anger at players exercising their rights within the system is misguided, the frustration with what Williams has done and how he has done it is very appropriate.

  • One of the major critiques of Williams is that he timed his announcement to coincide with many of his teammates attending the memorial service for UW Women’s Soccer player Mia Hamant. Setting Williams aside for a moment, the Times also has a story on Hamant and that event, including pictures from those who participated. It’s sad that her memorial service has become a footnote to the sordid transfer mess that Williams created.

  • Very shortly before Williams entered the transfer portal, the Huskies got what felt like a very big commitment at the time. DT DeSean Watts committed to UW, moving from Sacramento State, where he was one of the most productive interior DL in the conference. Watts should help shore up the interior DL with a combination of stuffing the run and creating a decent amount of pressure against the pass.

  • Adam Mohammed entering the transfer portal felt shocking at the time, but obviously now pales in comparison. Mohammed committed to Cal yesterday. The fact that he landed with a program with less recent success and a lower profile indicates that Mohammed either was not happy in Seattle or wanted to go somewhere that would allocate a larger portion of their revenue share to him. Your mileage may vary, but that feels like an appropriate use of the enhanced player mobility in the current system.

“It’ll be called college football. The games will be primarily on Saturdays, so the sport can be properly observed when most people are off work that day and the next.”

“Even the semifinals and championship, sir?”

“Of course not! The semifinals will be Thursday and Friday,… pic.twitter.com/UDvuMabuSn

So we’re all going to be hate watching Demond, right?

It’s one thing to leave after re signing… it’s another to announce it while the entire team is at the memorial for the UW soccer player that recent passed away…

What kind of world are we living in where pro sports now seem pure, authentic & organic.

And college sports feel sick, tainted and disloyal.
