- It’s Wednesday. You know what that means: Jedd Fisch is updating injuries. From Christian Caple at On Montlake, Fisch spoke optimistically about both Denzel Boston and Jonah Coleman ahead of the game of the season against Oregon on Saturday. Boston and Coleman both played against UCLA, but their snap counts were nominal and neither was close to full strength. Adam Mohammed has filled in admirably as the lead running back with Coleman severely limited. The Huskies don’t have another receiver like Boston with his combination of size, athleticism, and ball skills. For that reason, I think his availability will be crucial in a game where the margins are already extremely small.
- Separate from the skill position players, the offensive line has also had plenty of its own health issues. The Seattle Times looks at the opportunities for playing time that these injuries have created. Lots of young blockers have seen earlier playing time than we have seen under past coaching staffs. Jedd Fisch has prided himself on giving players early opportunities and we have seen lots of it this season.
- Husky Men’s Basketball has had a couple of early wobbles due to their own injury woes, but the Women’s team is off to a flying start. The Huskies beat Southern on Tuesday by holding the visitors to a paltry 40 points. The Dawgs are up to #22 in the rankings with their unblemished start.
- 247 Sports has a national view of the recruiting landscape with only a week to go before signing day. The Huskies get a mention for their ongoing pursuit of Trez Davis and Jae’Lin Battle. The Louisiana WR and Oklahoma DL have been committed elsewhere (Tulane and Baylor respectively, until Davis backed off his commitment this week). The Dawgs are considered to have a good chance at both of them to close out a very good recruiting class.
And none of those other schools ever employed Jimmy Lake!
