National Game of the Week: #6 Georgia @ #15 Tennessee
This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Vols, who lost their QB late in the off-season due to a bizarre NIL dispute. Through two games, Joey Aguilar has seamlessly taken over the offense. Now, the real work starts. Georgia has won this rivalry game the last eight times the teams have met. They have been ranked in the top three nationally for six of those eight games. The game hasn’t been closer than two TDs since Kirby Smart’s first year at Georgia in 2016. Georgia isn’t in the top three right now, but it’s hardly a “down” year for the Bulldogs. Nonetheless, their offense has been short of elite in the non-conference season. Is it finally Josh Heupel’s time to take advantage of the situation and get his first win over Georgia?
Also of note
- #18 South Florida @ #5 Miami. The Bulls have pulled off consecutive wins against ranked opponents (Boise St and Florida) and find themselves in the driver’s seat for the G5 CFP bid. Miami also feels great about their start because they won their marquee non-conference game against Notre Dame. Now, they have a surprising chance for a second one.
- #16 Texas A&M @ #8 Notre Dame. After an early bye, the Irish enter this game winless going into week three. Mike Elko has seemingly moved A&M out of LOL A&M territory. CJ Carr left a lot to be desired in his performance against Miami. Still, going into South Bend is a daunting task. It should be a great game.
