The game fills a void for both the Rebels and the Cougs
Washington State athletics announced on Monday that the Cougs will head to Oxford, Mississippi next year to take on Ole Miss. The game is currently scheduled for October 11th next year. The schedule addition not only fills a void, but will look good on both schedules.
The Rebels, who are currently ranked #9 and are 5-1, have had a lot of success the past few years and are in line to continue that success in the coming years. They have not had a losing season since the 2019 season when they finished at 4-8. They have since gone 5-5, 10-3, 8-5, and 11-2 last season and are on track to continue that streak once more
The Rebels previously had a game scheduled with Wake Forrest but that was cancelled by Wake earlier this season when they bought their way out of the return game. They then replaced their matchup with Oregon State and left the Rebels searching for game.
In steps the Cougs, who have been looking to fill their schedule following the fallout of the Mountain West deal. The Cougs have not played a game against an SEC school since 2013 when they dropped the season opener to Auburn 31-24. They do have a matchup scheduled with Mississippi State in Starkville in 2030 and then again in 2031 when the Bulldogs return to Pullman.
The Cougs 2025 schedule now has 7 matchups with Idaho, San Diego State, Washington and Oregon State coming to Pullman and road games against North Texas, Virginia, and Ole Miss.
