The Cougs are looking to split the season series with the Zags.
The Washington State baseball team will head north for their season series finale against Gonzaga today. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Peterson Baseball Complex and will be televised on ESPN+. With 4 games remaining in the season, the Cougs are looking to finish things on a high note and are hoping to kick that off today.
The Cougs had a lot of hope coming into the season and have failed to live up to those expectations. They are currently 18-32 and 11-16 in conference while going 3-9 in their last 12 games, they also have been outscored by nearly 100 points this season.
The Zags and Cougs have faced off 3 times already this season and the series is currently 2-1 in favor of the Zags. In their first meeting back in February, the Cougs were only able to bring 1 run across in the first inning and failed to get any more offense going in the 4-1 loss. The second time around saw more offense in a 7-6 Cougar win in 10 innings. The Cougs were able to bring two runs in in the top of the 10th and hold off the Zags to just one run in the bottom half. Their latest meeting was very similar but with the Cougs on the other side in a 7-6 loss in the 10th inning.
The Zags have not had all that great of a season either as they sit at 23-24 on the year and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. They also will have 3 more games remaining after today’s matchup.
Following the game today, the Cougs will kick off a 3 game road series against San Diego State beginning on Thursday at 6:00pm. Friday’s game is also slated to begin at 6:00 pm and Saturday’s season finale scheduled for a noon first pitch. All three games can be seen on the Mountain West Network.
