Washington State’s Nick Rolovich Reacts To State Mandate

Washington State‘s Nick Rolovich has had a change of mind; he’s getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Rolovich revealed earlier this year he had yet to get vaccinated and wasn’t planning on doing so ahead of the 2021 season, or at any point for that matter. But with his job now on the line, he’s had a change of heart.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee issued a mandate this week which requires all state employees to get vaccinated before Oct. 18. There are expceptions, but Rolovich reportedly doesn’t meet the qualifications. He either must get vaccinated or risk losing his job. It sounds like he’s going with the former.

Rolovich told reporters on Thursday that he plans to follow the mandate. In doing so, he’ll keep his job in the Pac-12.

“I plan on following (Inslee’s) mandate. For sure,” Rolovich said on Thursday, via Theo Lawson of the Spokesman Review. “… I’m just going to follow his mandate.”

It’s unclear if Nick Rolovich previously had anti-vax beliefs or if he simply believed getting vaccinated against COVID-19 was unnecessary for him personally. Regardless, it looks like he’ll be getting the shot.

College football’s success this upcoming season could widely depend on vaccination rates. Teams with higher vaccination rates are more probable of completing an entire season. Teams underneath a certain vaccination threshold could be in risk of having to forfeit games.

It sounds like Rolovich will do his part in getting vaccinated by Oct. 18.
