Why You Should Hit Every Cougar Basketball Weekend Left This Spring

Truly a slept-on genre of Pullman weekend.

Cougs, we all know the magic of Pullman in the fall: tailgates buzzing, The Coug packed wall to wall, the marching band playing loud and proud all across campus. But here’s the thing—WSU basketball weekends in the spring have their own kind of magic. If you’ve been skipping out on Cougar hoops, it’s time to rethink your game plan. Here’s why you should make it to every basketball weekend left this season:

1. Chill Bar Atmosphere

Let’s face it, Cougar Football Saturdays are electric—but they can also be overwhelming. Cougar Basketball Weekends, on the other hand, have that same community buzz but with a more laid-back vibe. Don’t get it twisted with being dull or boring— You can still grab a drink, connect with fellow fans, and soak in the excitement, but it feels a bit more… manageable. Think CFS, but with a relaxed twist.

2. Basketball is INSIDE

I want you to think back to your most frigid night spent in Martin Stadium— Maybe it’s pelting freezing rain, or a blizzard so thick you can’t see the field has overtaken Pullman. Now, think about the sunburned, heat-exhausted days you spend in late August and early September. You’re day-drinking, you’re hot, you’re spent. Guess what? None of that here! Basketball is played in the warm, cozy confines of Beasley Coliseum, in the midst of the perfect time of year for huddling inside. Games are shorter (no standing outside in the elements for 4.5-hour epics), and no matter where you sit, you’re guaranteed a great view of the action.

And when Beasley gets loud? It’s elite. The energy bounces off the walls, making it impossible not to get caught up in the excitement. Plus, the intimate atmosphere makes it easy to chat with the fans around you—whether you’re dissecting a play or bonding over your love of all things WSU. You know how that atmosphere can get even better? With more Cougs filling the seats!

3. Plenty of Time to Shop, Eat, Drink, and Enjoy Pullman

One of the hidden gems of basketball weekends? You actually have time to enjoy the rest of Pullman. With shorter games, you can hit your favorite bars, shop for some new Cougar gear, and savor every bite at your go-to restaurants. Take your time, wander around, and soak in the charm of Pullman. It’s like the perfect mix of Cougar spirit and a relaxed weekend getaway— I always come away from basketball weekends feeling rejuvenated and energized. I love you, CFS, but you never give me that feeling.

So in conclusion, basketball weekends are a whole different vibe than football—and that’s what makes them special. Both sports bring their own magic, but Cougar basketball offers a chance to experience Pullman in a unique way. So, what are you waiting for? Load up in the car, make the trip to Beasley, and enjoy everything a Cougar Basketball Weekend has to offer. See you there and Go Cougs!
