The last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft just became one of the highest paid players in the league.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has agreed to a five-year contract extension that averages out to a whopping $53 million per year, including north of $180 million in guaranteed money.
The #49ers and QB Brock Purdy agreed to terms on a five-year, $265 million contract extension, his agent Kyle Strongin of @RangeSports tells The Insiders.

We don’t have the full contract details yet and thus any potential outs, bonus and salary structure, etc. will be revealed, but his average annual value would put him in Jared Goff and Tua Tagovailoa territory. The top contract in terms of AAV is Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott’s $60 million/year.
For context of Purdy’s rise to this level of money, his base salary was less than $1 million in each of his first three seasons in the league, of which his 2023 campaign saw him in the MVP race and starting in the Super Bowl. Purdy did not have a particularly strong 2024 season, throwing for 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while suffering his worst completion percentage and sack rates of his young career.
Purdy’s story is a personal triumph given he was ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ as the last pick of his draft class, but from a football standpoint things get a lot more interesting in Santa Clara. Is Purdy truly a franchise quarterback, and how will the 49ers’ roster construction look in the seasons to come now that they no longer have a starter whose salary is soon to skyrocket?
