Nine-year veteran defensive tackle Jarran Reed has signed a new contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Reed, a former second-round pick, spent the 2024 season with the Seattle Seahawks but has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers.

Despite being on the wrong side of 30, Jarran Reed had yet another successful season for Seattle in 2024. Appearing in all 17 games, the veteran defensive tackle finished the season with 4.5 sacks, 45 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, 15 quarterback hits, and a 7o.6 PFF grade, the 20th-best mark out of 126 eligible players. Despite Reed’s strong play, Seattle narrowly missed the playoffs during the first year of the Mike Macdonald Era.

Jarran Reed originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Selected by the Seattle Seahawks, the Alabama product started his career in a rotational role. Appearing in 15 games while making six starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with 1.5 sacks, 34 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and four quarterback hits. He turned this promising debut into a full-time starting job in 2017 and remained an effective if unremarkable starter throughout his rookie contract, recording a career-high 10.5 sacks in 2018.

Jarren Reed signed a two-year contract extension with Seattle, but only played one year on the extended deal. Following his release, the defensive tackle signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. Starting all 17 games, Reed finished his lone season in Kansas City with 2.4 sacks, 43 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and 12 quarterback hits. He then signed with the Green Bay Packers and had a similar season.

Following his two-year exodus, Reed returned to Seattle in 2023 and responded with one of his best seasons. Starting in 16 games, the former second-round pick finished the campaign with seven sacks, 54 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, and seven tackles-for-loss as Seattle narrowly missed the playoffs.
