It is widely known that the Seattle Seahawks‘ future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner was heavily doubted coming out of high school in California. Wagner himself told a story on Wednesday during his media availability that will make you laugh, especially since it involves former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh.
According to Bobby, his high school coach went up to Jim Harbaugh at a bar in California when Harbaugh was the head coach at Stanford and told him “We got this linebacker, you should look at him.”
Harbaugh said no. Then, his high school coach may have fabricated a story to get Bobby a scholarship. Utah State is famously known as the only D-I school to offer Wagner a scholarship, which he said he wasn’t going to accept but was “forced” to accept. The Seahawks, of course, selected Wagner 47th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Had Wagner been recruited by Stanford he could’ve been on the same defense as future Seahawks teammate Richard Sherman. Lest we forget that before Sherman was a cornerback, he was on the same wide receiver depth chart as one Doug Baldwin.
Even though his coach had to lie a little bit to get Wagner into a D-I program, it’s safe to say that no one is complaining. Well, maybe Jim Harbaugh is.
