“Calls Coming In” For Seahawks Star Receiver – Chargers, Chiefs Possible Trade Partners

November 2, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

D.K. Metcalf Trade

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf could be the next big-name wide receiver to find a new home on the trade market. A second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the 6′-4″, 235-pound freak of nature exploded onto the scene by recording 58 receptions for 900 yards and seven receptions as a rookie. Since then, the perennial 1,000-yard receiver has established himself as one of the league’s better receivers, making two Pro Bowls and serving as the face of Seattle’s passing attack.

However, this might not save D.K. Metcalf from a trade. According to Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post, Seattle has received calls for the big-bodied wide receiver and could move him for the right offer. Seeing as they’re currently tied for the NFC West lead, the 4-4 Seahawks would probably need a Godfather offer to trade someone as good as Metcalf while they’re fighting for the playoffs. However, seeing as he has no guaranteed money on his contract beyond this season, the Seahawks might trade him to a desperate team like the Los Angeles Chargers or Kansas City Chiefs.

Chiefs, Chargers Could Execute A D.K. Metcalf Trade

At 4-3, the Los Angeles Chargers are in the thick of the playoff race despite rostering arguably the worst group of wide receivers in football. While second-round pick Ladd McConkey looks like the real deal, the rest of the unit could use some work. The jury is still out on whether 2023 first-round pick Quentin Johnston can be a reliable receiver, while a series of late-round picks and unremarkable journeymen comprise the rest of the depth chart. Justin Herbert is playing like a man possessed, but he’ll need more help if he wants to guide this team on a deep playoff run.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh is an old-fashioned mind who wants to win football games in the trenches. However, he’ll struggle to say no to a D.K. Metcalf trade. The former second-round pick’s ability to win downfield makes him a perfect match with Justin Herbert’s rocket arm, and Metcalf has plenty of experience playing in a run-first offense. Paired with Russell Wilson and Pete Caroll for most of his career, Metcalf shouldn’t throw a fit if the game plan demands a run-heavy attack.

More Help For Mahomes

The Chiefs already addressed the wide receiver position with the DeAndre Hopkins trade, but that shouldn’t stop them from continuing to upgrade this position. Hopkins used to be one of the league’s elite receivers, but at this point in his career, he’s nothing more than a solid second or third option in a passing attack. At 26 years old, D.K. Metcalf is still in the prime of his career, and the trade candidate could shatter his career marks in a pass-heavy attack led by a future Hall of Fame quarterback.

The Hopkins and Josh Uche trades show Kansas City will keep improving the team despite their undefeated record. In 2019, the Chiefs drafted Mecole Hardman over Metcalf. Now, the time has come to correct that mistake and give Mahomes his first dangerous downfield threat since the Tyreek Hill days. Kansas City’s offense has not been its usual unstoppable self, and Metcalf could fix that while helping this team become the first to win three Super Bowls in as many seasons.
