Former NFL running back Alex Collins passed away on Sunday night in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. He was just 28 years old.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office revealed in a statement that Collins’ death was caused by a motorcycle crash. He was driving on West Oakland Park Boulevard when he crashed into an SUV.

Collins’ motorcycle slammed into the SUV as it was making a left turn. The police report says Collins went through a window of the passenger side.

Collins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after Collins’ death was announced, his family released a heartfelt statement on this tragedy.

“Alex was cherished by his family and friends as well as supporters from all around the world,” Collins’ family said in a statement. “All who truly know him can attest to his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality.”

Collins, a former fifth-round pick from Arkansas, played for the Seahawks and Ravens during his NFL career. He had 1,997 rushing yards, 467 receiving yards and 19 total touchdowns.

Our thoughts are with the Collins family.
