Chiefs, Seahawks Connected in NFL Blockbuster Trade

February 23, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

seahawks dk metcalf trade

The Seattle Seahawks could find themselves in a negotiation to send star wideout DK Metcalf in a trade to the Kansas City Chiefs. According to several reports, there’s an expectation that the Chiefs could call about a Metcalf trade who is in the final year of his three-year, $72 million contract. It’s easy to see why Kansas City could be a suitor since they’re anticipating losing DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown in free agency since the team doesn’t have the financial liberty to grant them hefty deals. In that case, they’re doing everything they can this offseason to make as many moves with the salary cap they have and while Metcalf probably won’t move out of Seattle anytime soon, anything in this league can happen and is possible.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Ole Miss product became one of the most special playmakers in the league known for his elusiveness and hands he has. Metcalf is a two-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro nod which are all a reason why he could be fielding trade interest this offseason. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had one of his best seasons last year while Metcalf didn’t perform up to standards so this could be his big year if he stays in Seattle. However, the Chiefs will have to be willing to give up plenty of draft capital for Metcalf which would be hard since he probably wants a contract extension sooner rather than later.

According to NFL.com, he’s one of the several wide receivers on the list who “should” move on in a trade. Two teams like the Ravens, Chargers could spark interest this offseason and intervene.

Last Push Towards Super Bowl

This is probably a nice opportunity for head coach John Harbaugh could pursue since the Ravens missed out on two legitimate chances to head to the AFC Championship Game for the past back-to-back seasons. Quarterback Lamar Jackson is playing his best football right now and the Ravens can’t let it go to waste because they couldn’t find a reliable man behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. They might not have the salary cap to afford a DK Metcalf trade but it’s still possible that it may happen since they haven’t had any luck of signing another or trading another capable weapon.

Diontae Johnson was going to be their man to bring the passing attack back to life but the plans fell through. Since Nelson Agholor is a free agent, DeVontez Walker isn’t quite ready for the WR3 role even if they decide to bring him back. Metcalf is probably their answer to finally give some relief to Flowers. These two in the deep route could finally get the Ravens back in the Super Bowl in more than a decade.

Justin Herbert’s New Weapon?

As for the Chargers, Jim Harbaugh should put Justin Herbert in the best position to win football games not only in the regular season but in the playoffs as well. Harbaugh admits he did him a disservice so improving the pass game should be their number one priority since that’s where Herbert thrives best. As it stands, second-year Ladd McConkey is their only set of reliable hands.

Quentin Johnston is heading into his third year as a bust and Joshua Palmer is a free agent. While they could extend Palmer, the Chargers need more experience for Herbert. He can’t do it alone with McConkey and Metcalf is the perfect solution to get the team back in the AFC Championship conversations.
