Could the Seattle Seahawks Trade the 5th Overall Pick?

May 4, 2023 by Last Word On Pro Football

Seahawks 5th Overall Pick

Pete Carroll and the Seahawks might be in the best position of all the top pickers in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. The Seattle Seahawks come into this draft with two first-round picks, including the 5th overall pick acquired from the Denver Broncos in the Russell Wilson trade. This pick gives Seattle an extra opportunity to improve their roster by selecting the best overall player and filling position needs. The front office has taken heavy looks at Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr and Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. These are two defenders that can instantly improve the defensive line the team needs.

There is a very big possibility that the Seahawks could trade down if Anderson and Carter are off the board when it is time for Seattle to pick. General manager John Schneider likes to trade down for more picks, but the 5th overall pick has a chance for the Seahawks to get some real value. They can trade this selection to another team for a king’s ransom that could include a veteran player. The following trade packages that Seattle might be interested in trading for are from Pro Football Network’s Draft Simulations. The suggested teams and players have been brought up more than once in limited simulations.

Why the Seattle Seahawks Could Trade the 5th Overall Pick

Seattle Seahawks Trade For Dangerous Defensive Taklce

The Indianapolis Colts are currently are rebuilding mode and looking to get as much elite talent in the Draft as possible. The Colts could trade into the 5th overall pick to either get a number-one wide receiver like Jaxon Smith-Njigba or a franchise pass rusher.

To make this trade possible, the Colts would need to make a trade package that includes defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, the 35th overall pick, the 79th overall pick, a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and either another second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft or tight end Mo Alie-Cox. The Seahawks’ interior defensive line gets a huge upgrade with the addition of Buckner.

Scenario 2: Trading With the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars might be looking to move on from their talented young edge rusher in Josh Allen, who has been in trade rumors for some time. Jacksonville might look to move up in a big way to pick up Carter or Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson.

To trade for the Seahawks 5th overall pick, a package would include Allen, the 24th overall pick, and the 56th overall pick. Allen produced solid numbers last season for the Jaguars by accounting for 57 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven sacks, four forced fumbles, and 22 quarterback hits. Allen would be an instant star for the Seahawks defense and the solid pass rusher/run stopper off the edge they need.

Scenario 3: Trading With Tampa Bay

Seattle’s 5th overall pick is an opportunity for a quarterback-needy team to get their franchise leader. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might feel the need to trade up for a project like Florida’s Anthony Richardson. To accomplish this, Tampa Bay needs to create a serious package for Seattle to get into the top five.

This package includes the 19th overall pick, wide receiver Mike Evans, and either linebacker Devin White or the 50th overall pick. There have been rumors of Evans being on the trade block throughout the offseason, but his salary cap and demands to win now might be too much for the Buccaneers. The Seahawks can provide both for the 29-year-old receiver. If the Seahawks could swing getting White, it would be an incredible move to get a starting linebacker right next to Bobby Wagner.

Scenario 4: Trade With Las Vegas

Let’s get crazy for this proposed package from Pro Football Network. With the Las Vegas Raiders potentially looking into trading up for a quarterback they desire, they might look to move up two spots to 5th overall for either Richardson, Will Levis, or even C.J. Stroud if he falls. A package for Seattle includes the seventh overall pick and either the Raiders’ second-round pick in 2024 or running back Josh Jacobs.

Rumors that Jacobs could sent to the Seahawks this off-season exist. It may not be as ridiculous as it seems as Jacobs is not willing to sign his franchise or report to offseason workouts. It’s a stretch for Jacobs to be traded to Seattle, but Schneider could pull some magic in the NFL Draft.
