It’s already been a crazy NFL offseason and it’s going to get crazier once Baker Mayfield is likely traded.
He won’t be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2022 after Deshaun Watson was traded to them. Watson then signed a five-year deal that will see him get $230M guaranteed.
There’s no timetable for a Mayfield trade, but that hasn’t stopped NFL media pundits from weighing in with their thoughts on where he’ll go.
NBC’s Cris Collinsworth spoke on his latest episode of The Cris Collinsworth Podcast and has one team in mind for Mayfield.
“I still think he ends up in Seattle,” Collinsworth said. “It makes too much sense for him to land in Seattle, them draft a quarterback, sit behind Baker, give it a go. If Baker is good, great—we’ll be able to do it. But it’s so similar to the style of play that Russell Wilson has that you’re not going to have to change everything on the offensive side of the ball.”
If Seattle were to trade for Mayfield before the NFL Draft in a few weeks, that would mean one less team in the rookie quarterback market.
We’ll have to see if teams start to get more aggressive for Mayfield as the NFL Draft is set to begin on Apr. 28.
