Dee Eskridge will make Seahawks debut vs. Chargers

Rookie wide receiver Dee Eskridge — he prefers to be called Dee and not D’Wayne, just to clear up any confusion — is going to get some playing time in the Seattle Seahawks’ preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Eskridge, who had been battling a toe injury throughout training camp, was activated from the PUP list last week and has been actively participating in practice. While it looks as if Seattle’s star players will sit out the whole of the preseason, Eskridge will get a little bit of playing time per John Schneider.

John Schneider on @710ESPNSeattle says Eskridge should get 10-15 snaps tonight.

But he says 23 players won’t play.

With the gap from the preseason finale to Week 1 of the regular season now two weeks for most teams (except the curtain raisers on Thursday night), we have seen some teams, namely the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, treat the last preseason game as the “dress rehearsal” of sorts. Don’t expect the Seahawks to be one of them, though. It looks as if they’ll join the Los Angeles Rams and others as far as keeping the stars and other key players away from the preseason action.

Schneider says the Seahawks are in a “revolution” in regard to how they handle preseason. This may very well be the norm moving forward with few starters actually playing to protect them.

But hey, the main story is Eskridge. We’ll see how he looks in his limited snaps, presumably with Geno Smith starting at quarterback.
