DK Metcalf 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

September 4, 2023 by Last Word On Pro Football

DK Metcalf Fantasy Football

DK Metcalf, the 25-year-old wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, is an absolute beast of a man both in real-life football and in fantasy. Standing 6’ 4” and checking in at 235 pounds, Metcalf makes for a massive target for quarterback Geno Smith. Metcalf was drafted at the 64th overall selection in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).

DK Metcalf 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook: Mr. Consistent

In his four-year NFL career, DK Metcalf has yet to miss a game. Availability is the best ability and Metcalf has proven he’s going to be there for his team and yours. Metcalf finished as the wide receiver 33 in PPR rankings his rookie season and hasn’t looked back since. In 2020 he had his best season, ending the year as the seventh most productive wide receiver. 2021 would land him 14th while 2022 with a new quarterback at the helm Metcalf finished 16th overall.

DK Metcalf was second only to Justin Jefferson in red zone targets in 2022. Metcalf was targeted 27 times but only caught nine of those passes for five touchdowns (six touchdowns on the season). While only catching 33% of those targets isn’t great, the fact he got the targets is. In a second season with Geno Smith as quarterback their chemistry is sure to continue to grow.

DK Metcalf 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook: What to Expect in 2023

Entering the 2023 season, Metcalf is back with his longtime running mate Tyler Lockett back with the team for another year alongside Metcalf. Joining the wide receivers room is rookie sensation Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Smith-Njigba played at Ohio State University alongside young NFL stars Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Both players have said Smith-Njigba was the best player in that wide receiver room.

What does the addition of Smith-Njigba mean for the Fantasy Football Outlook for DK Metcalf? Well, the rookie suffered a small break in his wrist that required surgery and leaves his Week 1 status up in the air. Regardless of if or when Smith-Njibga plays it shouldn’t have a negative effect on DK Metcalf. When the rookie plays, he’ll draw attention opposite of Metcalf, freeing DK up for more targets.

Seahawks WR trio is going to be so good thing year.

I think the fact that Lockett and Metcalf require so much attention, JSN is going to have a killer rookie year.

Yard leaders will be in this order:

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: 1000+
Tyler Lockett: 950+ pic.twitter.com/a5vJO8KGLN

If Smith-Njigba misses time, it’ll force Geno Smith to look Metcalf’s way a little more. Don’t forget Tyler Lockett will be doing Tyler Lockett things as he crosses the middle of the field. With all three of these receivers on the field, it should be a bump to each one as the defense will have to commit time and energy to each significant threat.

Metcalf’s six touchdown catches last year were a bit of a regression from 10 in 2020 and 12 in 2021. With his massive amount of red zone targets and a second year connecting with quarterback Geno Smith, DK Metcalf should easily return to double digits in 2023. As the 15th wide receiver off the board with an ADP of 31.2 Metcalf could be one of the steals of the draft and has a strong chance to be a WR1 in 2023. Metcalf’s consistency is better than that of some players near him in ADP like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Tee Higgins, and Calvin Ridley.

All the rookie hype is around Bijan, but is Gibbs the rookie you should be targeting? Check out my latest for ⁦@LastWordOnNFL⁩
