Thoughts of a potential reunion with Mychal Kendricks were squashed Sunday, when the 30 year-old linebacker signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

The former Eagles, Seahawks, and Football Team defender is now entering his tenth season in the NFL. He is currently serving three years probation for his role in an insider trading operation. Kendricks’ questionable legal situation is one factor that led the end of his successful two-year stint with the ‘Hawks.
In fact, Kendricks’ last appearance at the then-named CenturyLink Field was in the Seahawks’ crushing Week 17 loss to the 49ers in 2019. Kendricks recorded two tackles in the game.
Now, he will be suiting up for his former team’s biggest rival, although his path to making the 53-man roster isn’t going to be easy. The 49ers signed him due to two linebacker injuries, but they still have solid backup players at the position, including Azeez Al-Shaair and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (both of whom are currently injured), as well as Justin Hilliard. Should the linebackers’ injuries prove to be more serious than expected, Kendricks’ shot at playing in red and gold Week 1 will go up significantly.
