Former Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks works out for 49ers

The back-and-forth personnel pipeline between Seattle and San Francisco saw another transfer Friday, with former Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks visiting the 49ers. The visit comes as 49ers linebackers Azeez Al-Shaair and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles are out with injuries.

The 30 year-old Kendricks came up with 90 tackles and an interception in 17 stars with the ‘Hawks. During his time with Seattle, Kendricks’ impending insider trading trial hung over his head, and he left the team after 2019. In 2020 he appeared in one game for Washington.

In July of this year, Kendricks was sentenced to one day in jail, which he has evidently served, as well as three years probation. Now that his legal situation is resolved, Kendricks is a potential veteran Seattle could look to return, a strategy John Schneider is known to employ. The team has already returned a number of former Seahawks this offseason including Pierre Desir, Alex Collins, and Al Woods.

However, I don’t see it as too likely that Seattle brings Kendricks back, barring injuries. The team seems content to give their young linebackers like Jordyn Brooks and Cody Barton a chance, and Kendricks doesn’t really fit in to that picture. Hopefully we don’t have to see him in a 49ers uniform, though.
