Jamal Adams wants to return to his former team

Number 33 isn’t ready to call it quits just yet.

Jamal Adams wants to finish his career at the birthplace of the blockbuster trade for two first-rounders.

New York City, home of the Jets.

Jamal Adams: I would love to be back with the Jets. https://t.co/KpqUAnld1u

This season would mark the ninth season of his career – which, to be honest, surprised me a little. I thought he’d played longer. Adams has played for four teams, the Jets, the Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans, finishing last year with two games on the Detroit Lions.

He’d like to finish back with the team that drafted him.

Not to source Pro Football Talk exclusively, the quote comes from a sit-down with The Jets Lounge, where Adams said the following:

I would love to be back with the Jets and, obviously, finish it the right way. Man, that would be a dream come true, just to patch up that relationship and kind of make it work. Just come in there as a seasoned vet and give game to the young cats and help in any way, shape or form I can. I know I can still play football.

Hard to blame the guy, these same Jets are the ones that took two high first-round picks, a third, and safety Bradley McDougald and turned it into an 18-33 record over the next three seasons. Two last place finishes and a third in the AFC East!

Adams’ career has been a tough follow, and remains one of three biggest blights on John Schneider’s trade resumé. Jimmy Graham and Percy Harvin being the others.

After posting blistering Approximate Values of 10 and 14(!) with New York, Adams dropped to 9 with Seattle his first year before falling off a cliff. He’s never surpassed an AV of 5 since.

Meanwhile, Jets fans have taken to “owning” the Seahawks over this trade to this day, so the responses to his desire to play for New York is a fascinating full circle of life kind of thing.

For the record, the second-best player involved in the Jamal Adams trade today is probably Coby Bryant, so that’s pretty cool!

Anyway, when I first read the headline I had assumed it was going to finish that Jamal Adams would “love to be back with the Seahawks.” Still quite a bit of remorse with that one, and I don’t believe I’m alone.

No animosity towards Adams in the slightest. I’d always hoped it would have worked better here, and the league was better when he was at his best.

But uh….good luck to both parties in the attempt to return to New York.
