Legendary Quarterback May Make Eyebrow-Raising NFL Return

April 14, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

Tom Brady may make return

Legendary quarterback and former New England Patriot Tom Brady may make eyebrow-raising NFL returns as he mentions three possible spots. Brady told the world in 2023 that he was done playing football “for good” in his own words before retirement. However, that’s all changing, revealing that he’s open for another comeback. Brady appeared on “DeepCuts with VicBlends” mentioning that he would be ready to “pick up the phone” if a team offered him to return to the field.

“I’m not opposed to it,” Brady said. “I don’t know if they’re gonna let me if I become an owner of an NFL team, but I don’t know. I’m always in good shape, I’ll always be able to throw the ball. So to come in for a little bit, like M.J. coming back? I don’t know if they’d let me but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

His pending NFL ownership is key, but he’s yet to be approved as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. However, the league could issue a rule that allows Brady to continue playing while being an owner of a team. Brady last appeared for the Tampa Bay Buccanneers in 2022 in his third and final season with the organization, following his 20-year run with the Patriots. He’s technically a free agent after his contract with the Buccaneers, which means he’s free to sign wherever in 2024.

Brady’s comments speculate that he could make a return for any team that has an injured quarterback. This would shock the league if he were to do this being that he’s returning to the workforce this fall as a broadcaster for Fox Sports. So this means teams would be ready to reach out for his services if the time comes.

He Mentions Three Teams

Brady mentions 49ers, Raiders and Patriots were possible landing spots that he would consider joining in a late-season scenario if they need him. This would be interesting to see if his work at Fox Sports would stop him from making his return. However, one week you could see Brady fulfilling his duties and the next could be lacing up his cleats ready to take on the field. What’s interesting is that the Raiders and Patriots are without quality starters at quarterback but that could change after this year’s NFL Draft.

Also, it’s worth noting that the 49ers already lost two Super Bowl matches with Brock Purdy under the gun. The implication is that Purdy isn’t arguably a star compared to what Brady has done in the league. However, Brady did it with a new team after completing 67% of his passes for 4,694 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2022. Brady joining any team could be the best-case scenario.

The best team for Brady would probably be the 49ers but that’s only if the Raiders allow him to. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan did mention he tried to bring Brady in after his second retirement announcement.

Other Possible Team Fits

If he’s willing to play, then why wait? Brady has the experience and love for the game so it only makes sense for his return. However, there could be other teams that can be possible fits for him. The Broncos, Seahawks and Vikings are other likely destinations that Brady could also consider. It isn’t about ring-chasing anymore at this point of his career, He has enough of those.

It’s probably about garnering attention and trying to lead a team to give them a boost in the postseason. Whichever team does make this happen will have to make the call first.
