The Seahawks had a heavily praised draft, but how do you feel about certain positions on the roster?
The Seattle Seahawks have made their draft picks and indeed signed their undrafted free agents, but we know that draftees have a far higher chance of making the regular season roster than UDFAs.
We saw the Seahawks immediately address the offensive line by taking Grey Zabel, then invest in safety with Nick Emmanwori, snag a couple of Day 3 wide receivers in Ricky White III and Tory Horton, and land a possible QB of the future in Jalen Milroe.
What we did not see was the Seahawks taking any inside linebackers, cornerbacks, or true nose tackles. Seattle has since brought back Johnathan Hankins in free agency but the other two positions may have some UDFA candidates in competition.
For today’s discussion, do you have any positions on the Seahawks depth chart that give you great concern heading into the quiet part of the offseason?
I can tell you unequivocally that the inside linebacker position has me feeling very nervous. Ernest Jones IV has been a standout performer but he’s coming off knee surgery, while Tyrice Knight showed promise as a rookie but that hasn’t given him unquestioned status as a very good NFL player yet. One of those two gets lost to injury and you have close to zero prior NFL regular season experience below those two on the depth chart. We’ve seen how much Seattle struggled defensively with sub-par linebacker play from starters, so knock on wood that Jones and Knight keep their spots in the lineup through health and performance.
