It’ll be preseason, but it’s still going to be an incredible scene for an August game.
Pete Carroll’s return to the NFL will be a soft launch against the team he guided to a Lombardi Trophy.
The current Las Vegas Raiders head coach was interviewed by Brock Huard and Mike Salk on Seattle Sports 710 on Wednesday morning. Ever the eager beaver no matter how old he is, Carroll let it slip a little early that the Raiders will play the Seattle Seahawks in the 2025 preseason opener.
“Hey, what a coincidence, huh?”

“Hey, what a coincidence, huh? How about the opening game of the preseason?” Carroll said. “Is that out yet?”
No it’s not, Pete. But I don’t like waiting all day for stuff that could be published right this minute, so many thanks again to the greatest head coach in Seahawks history.
The Seahawks have two preseason games at Lumen Field to offset the fact that they have eight regular season home dates. With Seattle reportedly set to play the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, it’s more than likely that Seattle’s preseason opener will be a home game.
Of course, Carroll wouldn’t be the only one seeing his old team. We don’t know how much of the preseason new Raiders starting quarterback Geno Smith would play in preseason, but at the very least he’ll be around to say hi to his former Seahawks teammates.
If this game is in Seattle, it might be the rare exhibition that’s a hot ticket in town.
