Pete Carroll Comments On Seahawks DB Not Practicing This Week

Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs has been present at practice this entire week. That being said, the Texas product has not actually participated in any of the team’s four practice sessions.

During this Friday’s press conference, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was asked why Diggs wasn’t practicing with the team.

Carroll told reporters that Diggs isn’t practicing because he’s “making a statement” about wanting a new contract.

“I think he’s making a bit of a statement now and he deserves to do that,” Carroll said. “Quandre’s been great all through camp. He’s had a fantastic camp and he’s in great shape and he’s ready to go.”

Diggs is on the final year of a three-year, $18.6 million contract that he signed with the Detroit Lions in 2018. He believes he has outperformed that contract in Seattle and deserves an extension.

The last thing Seattle needed this summer was another contract holdout. The front office already took care of All-Pro safety Jamal Adams’ situation and are currently in the middle of figuring out what to do with veteran offensive tackle Duane Brown.

Obviously, the Seahawks want Diggs on the field for the start of the season. He was outstanding in 2020, racking up 64 tackles, 10 passes defended and five interceptions.

The pressure will be on Seattle to sort out Diggs’ contract situation before Week 1 of the regular season.
