Raiders 3rd-Round Pick From 2020 Reportedly Signs With New NFL Team

The Seattle Seahawks have had a busy Tuesday with their season opener looming later this week. Left tackle Duane Brown agreed to a restructured deal, cornerback John Reid re-joined the active roster and now a former third-round linebacker has landed on the team’s practice squad.

According to Tom Pelissero, Tanner Muse will sign with the Seahawks practice squad this week. The 25-year-old, former Clemson linebacker lasted just one season with the Las Vegas Raiders and will now get a clean slate in Seattle.

Muse, who the Raiders selected in the third-round of the 2020 draft, saw his rookie year derailed for a variety of reasons. He began the season on the injured reserve with a foot injury and later underwent surgery on his toe, ending his first year in the NFL. He also had a brief stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Muse never played a snap for the Raiders.

Muse will fill one of the two vacancies on the Seahawks practice squad, so clearly the organization thinks he’s worthy of one of the coveted spots. He may find a role on the active roster soon enough should anything happen to one of Seattle’s other inside linebackers.

As for the Raiders, Muse’s departure and immediate signing is another indictment of the team’s poor draft performance in recent year. The 25-year-old linebacker became the second player drafted by the Raiders in third-round in 2020 to leave the team after just one season in Las Vegas. Former Kentucky running back Lynn Bowden Jr. was traded to the Miami Dolphins before his rookie year began.

The Raiders clearly didn’t think that either player was worth keeping around for more than a season, which is concerning considering they drafted each one so recently. The leadership in Las Vegas might want to adjust their draft strategy to avoid such situations in the future.
