Ravens, Chiefs May Land Top Potential Trade Candidate

The Baltimore Ravens or the Kansas City Chiefs may land top potential trade candidate, Tyler Lockett this summer. According to a report, the longtime Seattle Seahawk could become the latest player to be on the move this upcoming season. Bleacher Report says that the team could opt to rebuild this year since they’ve been having a huge makeover since moving on from Pete Carroll which means they’re going to get younger. If the Seahawks decide to go that route, they would have a few assets in return.

Seattle could trade Lockett even though he has two years on his deal and remains a productive wideout for any roster that needs one. However, he isn’t getting younger so it may be logical for the team to move on from him. The former Pro Bowler led the Seahawks in 79 receptions, and targets and posted 894 receiving yards along with five touchdowns. It’s hard to imagine that the Seahawks would move on from Lockett considering he is willing to restructure his contract with the team.

However, he’s getting older so that means he may be less explosive as a playmaker after averaging 11.3 yards per reception this year, second-lowest of his career. Considering Lockett already has the third-highest cap number on the roster with the play he’s been contributing, it would be smart for the Seahawks to move on while he still has value. The Ravens are one destination that could be a good fit for him considering the speed and agility that Lamar Jackson provides on play-action plays. Kansas City is a fit for Lockett if he wants to end his career with a Super Bowl win.

No one would be hesitant about that opportunity. However, here are some other potential trade fits for Lockett.

Other Potential Trade Fits

Carolina Panthers

Lockett may not be getting younger in a replica of Diontae Johnson but he could help Bryce Young spring forward into one of the elite quarterbacks. The Panthers have been restructuring their entire offense to give an efficient supporting cast for their second-year quarterback but one more added wideout wouldn’t hurt the team’s chances. Lockett wouldn’t come cheap but it’s a gamble that even Dave Canales may consider if they want to take to the next level in playoff contention.

Adam Thielen isn’t going anywhere but they would move him around in the next few years to allow other receivers to get some playing time. This is probably what the Panthers would do to spread the offense with the newest wideout Xavier Legette. He needs a few years before establishing himself and Lockett would be the perfect insurance policy to boost production.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have been making questionable decisions in their offense which is making everyone scratching their head. J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, Quentin Johnson and DJ Chark being the new offense doesn’t seem promising for Justin Herbert to remain in elite status. It seems like there could be a “wear and tear” situation that may occur especially considering two of his starting running backs have excellent track records of injuries. This upcoming season will be all about who fits into what to provide Herbert with the best offense to continue his journey as one of the most underrated passers in the game today.

Lockett could immediately provide that stability the same way that Mike Williams and Keenan Allen were able to when they were still around.

Dallas Cowboys

Someone’s gotta wake this team up at some point, right? It seems like the Dallas Cowboys are forever going to get cheaper and trust in the homegrown talent they’re establishing. It’s great that they’re doing that but to get past the divisional round, they need some veterans with experience that can take this team to the next level. Jerry Jones shouldn’t sit back and watch this team implode especially when they have CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott’s contracts to think about.

Brandin Cooks, Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin on the receiver depth don’t sound like Super Bowl material for a team that wants to go “all in.”
