Huff was a splash signing in free agency just over a year ago, but didn’t live up to expectations for an Eagles team that lifted the Lombardi.
The slowest of slow periods of the offseason lies just ahead, meaning that for teams across the NFL the offseason program is winding down and fanhood transforms into a matter of waiting for players to report to training camp.
Or, alternatively, it becomes a matter of waiting for players to report to training camp, while dreaming of a favorite team adding a big name player via trade. For fans of the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers, this is exactly what is reportedly set to happen according to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ESPN sources: 49ers and Eagles are working to finalize a trade that will send edge rusher Bryce Huff to San Francisco for a mid-round pick. The trade cannot and would not be processed until after June 1. But both sides are working to make it happen, and Huff already has reworked… pic.twitter.com/FJeGc9Cfwx

Bryce Huff posted a career year in 2023 with 10.0 sacks for the New York Jets under then head coach Robert Saleh, who has since been fired by the Jets, but hired as defensive coordinator by San Francisco. However, the Philadelphia Eagles had been looking to move on from Huff, after he finished the season with just 2.5 sacks in the defense of Vic Fangio.
In addition to being reunited with Saleh in San Francisco, the Eagles have reportedly reworked Huff’s contract, which means the 49ers will effectively have Huff on a one-year contract, with an option for a second year in 2026 if he performs.
The cap specifics of this deal:
The Eagles declined Bryce Huff’s $15.58M fully guaranteed option bonus, which turned it into base salary.
Philadelphia then turned $9.05M of that base salary into a signing bonus, which allows San Francisco to take on the remaining money… https://t.co/FBkXHANhxx

Assuming the terms of the renegotiation reported by Field Yates are accurate, Huff will cost $7.95M against the salary cap in 2025, with the Niners able to keep him around for 2026 at a cap hit of $16.795M should they wish to. However, should they opt to move on, they would be able to release him without incurring any dead money hits against the cap.
The specific compensation San Francisco is sending to Philadelphia has not been disclosed, with “mid-round pick” all that has been reported to this point.
