Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is continuing to bring familiar faces to the nation’s capital. This time it’s someone he recalls fondly from a few years ago.

To kick off free agency, the Commanders have officially signed longtime Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner to a contract. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport it’s a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million with $6 million guaranteed.

“Sources: #Seahawks perennial Pro Bowler and All-Pro LB Bobby Wagner is signing with the #Commanders on a 1-year deal worth a max value of $8.5M, a deal that includes $6M in guarantees. Dan Quinn was with Wagner a decade ago in Seattle, now they’re back. A splash for Washington,” Rapoport wrote.

Quinn was the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks when Wagner broke onto the scene in the 2010s and helped lead the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. Wagner is a nine-time Pro Bowler and a 10-time All-Pro selection in 12 NFL seasons.

Wagner has had at least 100 combined tackles in all 12 of his professional seasons, including a career-high 183 with the Seahawks in 2023.

The Commanders defense was dead last in points allowed this past season, allowing a a franchise-record 518 points and making several midseason firings amid what would be a 4-13 season.

But the Commanders are giving Quinn and general manager Adam Peters plenty of tools to make a big splash this offseason and get the team back to respectability quickly.

Now their defense has their leader.

Will the Commanders defense enjoy a big turnaround in 2024?
