REPORT: Seahawks Named Fit for $39 Million Free Agent – Chargers, Chiefs Likely to Intervene

After trading away DK Metcalf this offseason, the Seattle Seahawks could target $39 million free agent Gabe Davis before the 2025 regular season. According to Pro Football Focus, they believe the Seahawks may sign a new wide receiver, who just became available on the market, and that might be Davis. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former UCF product began his career with the Buffalo Bills, trying to be a reliable playmaker for Josh Allen’s offense. However, he didn’t fit the bill anymore since the Jaguars took a chance on him and gave the wideout a three-year contract, which didn’t even pay off the following season.

Following a torn meniscus injury in November announced by former head coach Doug Pederson, the Jaguars were left without for the rest of the season. Since then, the team has been building a new regime in Jacksonville, so it made sense that they released him instead. After drafting Travis Hunter in the first round of this year’s draft, the Jaguars are building a new wide receiver room behind Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. in their new regime under Liam Coen. Davis could fit into a new scenery in Seattle despite the Seahawks signing Cooper Kupp earlier this offseason.

The Seahawks still need a wide receiver in the backend of their depth chart. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the lone option as the No. 3 weapon, and Davis could fit alongside him to backup Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. However, the Seahawks won’t be the only team that may chase down Davis as a last-minute addition, but these two teams could pursue him.

More Help for Herbert

It’s probably almost painful how much the Los Angeles Chargers need another capable wide receiver. Despite signing veteran Mike Williams, he can’t save this season to give relief for rising talent Ladd McConkey. However, if they add a weapon for quarterback Justin Herbert to play around with, Davis could truly turn into a consistent weapon for this offensive pass attack. Quentin Johnston is way too unproductive, and it’s hard to imagine he has a job after the preseason if 2025 draft pick Tre Harris emerges.

Even with Harris on the team, they need a veteran presence like Davis to salvage the unit. The Chargers are looking into reuniting with Keenan Allen, but they have already seen what he could, and there was a reason why they had to release him last offseason. He won’t be the same anymore, so it’s safe for the Chargers to start fresh in a way with Davis so he could be in the mix of being a No. 2 or third man receiver to help save their 2025 season for a quarterback that is improving each season.

The Dynamic Trio?

At this point in his career, Davis could be looking to join a contender. There would be no better NFL team out there to do it than Kansas City. Even though Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy will eat up most of the snaps, they could have someone like Davis as a No. 4 receiver. He doesn’t need to play every down this season, but enough to make an impact and help Marquise Brown create some separation in the aerial attack.
