Report: Seahawks ready to go year by year with Jamal Adams

Fans of the Seattle Seahawks have been on the edge of their seats as they wait for the hopefully soon to be announced contract extension for Jamal Adams, but that announcement has not arrived as quickly as fans would like. Now, according to a report from Pro Football Talk Monday morning, that announcement may not be on its way at all.

With long-term contract talks at a standstill, the Seahawks are ready to go one year at a time with Jamal Adams, with franchise tags in 2022 and 2023. (The Jets are not surprised by this development.) https://t.co/pH5UfQIIpF

Adams, of course, was acquired by the Seahawks from he New York Jets in exchange for two first round picks and a third round pick last summer. Adams had grown tired of the Jets refusal to offer him the type of contract which he had earned, and then formally requested a trade. Now, after having played the 2020 season on the fourth year of his rookie contract, and on the verge of playing the 2021 season on the fifth year option, it appears John Schneider and Pete Carroll may be ready to adopt a pay as go model with Adams.

Whether this is simply the team using the media in their negotiations, or whether things have actually reached the point where the franchise tag is the preferred avenue for the team remains to be seen, but it is certainly an interesting development.
