Report: Seahawks to bring back WR Darece Roberson

Tuesday the Seattle Seahawks made a pair of roster moves by signing Lukayus McNeil and Anthony Ratliff-Williams, which required the team to open up two roster spots. One of the players waived in order to create those roster spots was wide receiver Darece Roberson, and after clearing waivers it appears as though Roberson’s time away from the team was very brief according to a report from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Two days after waiving WR Darece Roberson, the #Seahawks are re-signing him today, per source.

This is unlikely to seem like a significant move to many Seattle fans, but it should be reason enough to cause some raised eyebrows. The reason is that, as long time Field Gulls readers know, the Seahawks have long used roster mirroring and athletic profiles, and Roberson is a relatively close comp for second round pick D’Wayne Eskridge.

Obviously it’s not a perfect comparison, and it’s entirely possible the team is simply in need of bodies at wide receiver as it prepares for the preseason opener Saturday evening in Las Vegas. In any case, the addition of Roberson to the roster at this point does not seem like a great sign for the recovery of Eskridge’s toe, regardless of how special the shoes he’s wearing may be.

No corresponding move has been reported to make room on the roster for Roberson as of yet.
