The Seattle Seahawks must reduce their roster from 90 players to 85 prior to 4 PM New York time on Tuesday, and on Monday afternoon Brady Henderson of ESPN reported that the team has informed at least one player of their decision.

The Seahawks have informed LB Nate Evans that he’s being waived, I’m told. NFL teams have to trim their rosters from 90 to 85 by 1 p.m. PT tomorrow.

Nate Evans was a linebacker the team had claimed from the Jacksonville Jaguars during the offseason, but who had not done enough to keep a roster spot in spite of a strong special teams showing in the preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. The depth at linebacker for the Seahawks had been relatively shallow, but with the starting roles firmly in the hands of Bobby Wagner, Jordyn Brooks and Darrell Taylor while Cody Barton and Ben Burr-Kirven are pretty well locked in at depth.

This is, of course, just the first of five required moves to get the roster to the required 85 players, so keep checking back with Field Gulls to stay up to date regarding the other moves the team will make.
