Seahawks 2025 schedule rumor: Seahawks to host 49ers on opening day

It’s been a long time since the Seahawks hosted the 49ers in Week 1.

Do we have the Seattle Seahawks’ opening day opponent for the 2025 regular season?

It’s #LeakSZN, which means schedule leaks, rumors, and reports will run amok from now until Wednesday’s 5 pm PT release. The first potential Seahawks leak comes from none other than longtime Seattle sports radio host ‘Softy’ Mahler from KJR. Softy has historically been very accurate regarding schedule news, and he’s heard through the grapevine that the Seahawks’ Week 1 opponent will be the San Francisco 49ers.

Hearing the Seahawks will open the season vs the 49ers at home on 9/7

Official announcement comes tomorrow

If this is true, it’ll be the first time since 2010 that the Seahawks have hosted the 49ers on opening day. That was Pete Carroll’s debut, which started disastrously when Matt Hasselbeck was intercepted on the literal first play of the season, but ended in a 31-6 romp of San Francisco. I’m sure you remember this, right?

The Seahawks’ last meeting with the 49ers saw them win 20-17 on a heroic Geno Smith game-winning touchdown drive, capped off by a dagger of a scramble to the end zone that effectively sent San Francisco into an irreversible spiral. It was Smith’s only win over the 49ers as a starter, which obviously means he never was on the winning side of this rivalry at Lumen Field.

Seattle’s last home win was a 30-23 thriller over the 49ers back in 2021, when San Francisco eventually reached the NFC Championship Game. Jimmy Garoppolo was picked off twice, Russell Wilson threw two touchdowns, Adrian Peterson scored his final NFL touchdown in his only appearance with the Seahawks, and Gerald Everett seemingly was going through extraordinary lengths to hand the game to the 49ers.

If this rumor is reality, an important division game at home is one hell of a way to start the season and kick off the Sam Darnold era.
